Physical therapists evaluate and treat people of all ages with many dysfunctions, based on the referral of a physician. Physical therapists work to decrease pain and improve function by increasing muscle and joint strength, flexibility and endurance, educating patients on proper posture and body mechanics, and utilizing a variety of modalities, such as ultrasound, traction, or electrical stimulation as an aid to reduce pain. Physical therapists maintain close communication with the referring physician as the patient progreses through his/her treatments. Physical therapists can be found working as part of a healthcare team in many different settings, such as private outpatient clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, school systems, patients homes, and sports facilities.

Occupational therapists help people of all ages who have physical, developmental, and emotional conditions achieve independence in all aspects of their lives. Occupational therapists help provide solutions and alternatives to learn functional skills and allow a person to live an independent, satisfying, productive life. The occupational therapist may adapt a task, and/or the environment in which the task is to be completed,or restore the ability to participate in meaningful occupations as desired by the patient. Occupational therapists may assist patients with return to work activities, vision or cognitive problems, mental health problems, developmental or learning disabilities, neurological deficits, and chronic conditions. Occupational therapists can be found working as a part of a healthcare team in outpatient facilities, hospitals, nursing homes, school systems, and patients homes.
